What is the Cosmedix Deep Sea Peel?

The Cosmedix Deep Sea Peel is a clinical-grade, medium strength peel designed to target a variety of skin concerns.

This is a non-acid, chemical free peel that utilises manual exfoliation to resurface the skin, lifting away stubborn pigmentation (including melasma) and softening the appearance of acne scarring.

The “deep sea” in the name reflects the power of the ingredients used, some of which are derived from the ocean.

The way it works is much closer to micro-needling than a chemical peel.

Although it causes a peeling effect, stimulation is caused by trauma to the skin. In turn the response is the increased production of collagen and elastin.

The Science Behind the Magic

The key ingredient in the Cosmedix Deep Sea Peel is a synergistic blend of L-Lactic Acid, Sea Herbs, and Chlorella. This combination works to promote exfoliation, stimulate collagen production, and deeply hydrate the skin. Let’s take a closer look at how each of these components contributes to the peel’s magic:

  1. L-Lactic Acid: Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) known for its exfoliating properties. It helps to remove dead skin cells, promote skin cell turnover, and improve skin texture. Unlike some other chemical peels, lactic acid is generally milder, making it suitable for a wider range of skin types.
  2. Sea Herbs: Sea herbs, which include ingredients like Irish Moss and Spirulina, are rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They help nourish and rejuvenate the skin while calming any inflammation.
  3. Chlorella: Chlorella is a type of freshwater algae and is packed with nutrients and chlorophyll. It can support detoxification, reduce redness, and help the skin heal.

Am I a suitable candidate?

As Deep Sea is a Level 3 Peel, it is not suitable as a first time peel. Preparation of the skin prior to treatment is recommended. Using a Retinol Serum and Tyrosinase inhibitor products prescribed by the The Skin Studio ensures the best results.

We do not recommend this peel for sensitive skins.

The Deep Sea Peel Treatment

Unlike traditional peels, the treatment does not burn or sting and is generally comfortable.

After initial cleansing and preparing the skin. The scrub-like texture is applied and massaged into the skin for 2 to 10 minutes. The intensity and time of the treatment is controlled by the therapist, depending on the health of the skin and the desired results.

Some clients feel heat and a slight scratching as the microscopic silicates are worked into the skin.

After the peel is removed, calming serums and sunscreen is applied.

The Downtime for The Deep Sea Peel

Recovery times after the Deep Sea Peel vary from 4-7 days. During this period, it is normal to experience redness, heat, tingling, pin-prick sensations (similar to sunburn) and peeling.

The extent of skin peeling is different for each clients and can vary from mild peeling to strong flaking.

Best results are evident 14 days after treatment. You can expect an overall improvement in the tone and texture of your skin. Pigmentation will be reduced and your skin will be smoother, firmer, brighter and appear healthier and more hydrated.
