3 Questions To Ask Before A Skin Treatment.
Thinking of an advanced skin treatment? There are some questions to ask your skin therapist.
With treatments and technologies advancing at a rapid rate, it’s important to think carefully about your decision.
Know which questions to ask and what to look out for, so you can make an informed and safe choice.
Who will perform the treatment?
Sadly the aesthetics industry is largely unregulated which can lead to unqualified practitioners performing advanced skin treatments.
Choose someone who is qualified, knowledgeable, skilled and experienced in performing the treatment. Ask about their qualifications and experience.
Where the treatment occurs is also very important. Is it clean? Is it safe? At a minimum, all clinics must meet infection control standards set by state and territory health departments.
What products and/or devices are being used?
The treatment you are considering will likely involve a product and/or medical device.
Make sure any product and/or medical device that will be used in the procedure is approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). You can check whether a product or medical device is approved for supply by looking for it in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
Informed consent?
The aesthetician who will perform the procedure should provide you with enough information to make an informed decision about whether to have the treatment. In addition to the information described above, you should also be given information about:
- what the treatment involves
- the risks and possible complications
- total cost including details of deposits required
- expectation of results
- expectation of downtime
- post treatment care
